Building Slabs Wood Kayak Light Fixture
It took about 60 days to build this ornate beautiful wood kayak strip by strip of wood hand picked for the perfect look. This wood kayak contains juniper wood, and mahogany.. It also has two exotic African hardwoods – snakewood, and purple heart. The snakewood tree is bushy and normally has two or three gnarled trunks. So, snakewood limbs usually appear to be spreading and contorted and found in Western Australia.
Since you have to stand under it to look closely at the detail, to see the grain and detail of each part of the exotic Slabs wood kayak that includes purple heart and rare snakewood. It’s remarkable! Brian and Barbara Fenters have been working for two years with their saw mill slabbing oak trees that fell just after hurricane Matthew. So, our plan is to eventually fill our wood gallery and restaurant with these trees that speak through every grain of their wood. The oak and pecan trees that were cut into slabs have a beautiful live edge. You will be intrigued and captivated by the grain movement and you will envision the struggle each tree went through in it’s life. We do accept some trees for slabbing the older and most gnarled wood will tell the best stories.

We will feature wood in Slabs Wood Gallery mainly those with many characteristics. So, the more complex the wood growth the more stress you can view in the injuries that the tree had. The grain will speak the life of the tree and how it managed to sustain. Terms like spalted, burly, quilted, curly, and wormy, tell the story of each trees growth including any injuries that the tree had to survive and endure.
